For Educators: why foyble should be part of your curriculum
Oct 22nd
One of the most interesting and promising applications for the tools we are developing are in the classroom. From the very beginning, foyble co-founder John Frazier has been helping develop tools that make sense for students and schools to use. Some of the recent publicity we received in Columbus also garnered some unsolicited interest in the site from teachers. So we know that foyble has potential to be a very valuable tool for educators to use. Here are some of our thoughts on the issue.
Foyble 101: The Basics
The tools that are out there now are very well suited for teachers and administrators to encourage students to perform acts of goodwill and track them on the site. Teachers can create groups by class and challenge students to do something nice for their peers or family members. Teachers with older students can simply encourage community service. Perhaps issue challenges to other schools or classes to see who can inspire the most acts? Use the act maps to see where students have performed their acts. Use the act of recording foybles on the site as a critical writing exercise; asking students to think about what they might do, going out and doing it, then reflecting on their experiences and writing about them is a perfect language arts assignment! All of this is possible to do, NOW, on foyble.com.

We’ll keep this one short. The Columbus local news (the guys who do those awesome papers catered to your local communities in the ‘Bus) did a great profile on how we thought of this whole deal. Read it HERE.

“What is Foyble?” video and why we’re allowed to say its AWESOME!
Aug 21st
People everywhere are loving the “What is Foyble?” video! You can see it by clicking on the “What is Foyble” youtube button on the foyble homepage or by going to youtube here.
We can’t stop telling everyone how AMAZING the video is and how perfectly it captures the spirit and purpose of foyble. Why are we so bold as to brag about our own movie, you ask? I’ll tell you why….WE DIDN’T MAKE IT!
You see, the adventures of Darlene and Charlie is a foyble itself. Justin Lebanowski is a talented grad of USC’s film school and lives in LA. He also just happens to know a couple guys that are dead set on creating a website to change the world and start the GIVE. We called him up with an idea of putting together a video introduction to our site. We were resigned to the idea of shaky camcorders, scratchy audio, nature’s light, and maybe putting Foy in a makeshift santa suit running around changing tires and giving candy to kids. We asked Justin for advice. What he gave us was unbelievable.
Justin recruited his friend and fellow filmmaker TJ Martin and they put their amazing talents to work to create a video that introduces foyble to the world. They also provided an outstanding cast and crew that brought life, fun, and humanity to our concept. In the spirit of foyble, its critical for us to recognize all the people on the west coast that made this project possible and so, so special!
